1/24/25 SHORT PANTS by Don Henderson
I just watched a Leave it to Beaver Episode from 1957. I had seen it before but today it reminded me of Eddie Nokes and our 3rd grade picture. In this Beaver Episode, Beaver’s Mom had to be away for a few days and so she had her Aunt Martha come and help out while she was away. Aunt Martha went to the store with Beaver and bought him a new outfit which included a pair of short pants. Aunt Martha insisted that he wear the outfit to school. Beaver attempted to hide as he walked around school, but eventually his friends found him and made fun of him. Beaver was very upset and soon got into a fight over the pants. As I was watching this I thought of Eddie Nokes and our Malakoff third grade picture. In this picture, Eddie not only had short pants but was bare footed. I don’t remember anyone saying anything about his short pants, nor about his bare feet. Eddie was my next-door neighbor and best friend. We both graduated in 1957 and along with several other members of our class we chose to attend Henderson County Junior College (Now Trinity Valley). Eddie lasted but a semester and then joined the Marines.
