My Special Summer at the Beach

6/26/21

June is when I am drawn toward memories of staying with the Powers in Pt. Neches, Texas. It was during this period in which I began visiting during the summer months. Mother, Paul, and Vivien lived at 1121 MacArthur in Pt. Neches, and this was my summer destination starting in about 1946. I visited every summer from the time I was eight until I reached college age and went to HCJC in Athens, Texas. I then stayed with the Powers at their new location, 2428 Nall St., Pt. Neches as I attended Lamar Tech. I want to share one the special summers and here is a link to that summer. https://blakehart.com/MyMarineScienceBeginnings.html

I still remember much of what happened. Going to the beach for Paul was almost a ritual and all new things for me. I had never been to the beach before and of course I had not done any swimming before, so this was a great learning experience for me. Paul always had inner tubes aired for Viv and I and we floated in the surf on them and rode the waves, while Mother kept a watchful eye on us. On occasion we would drift away from our close location and find ourselves a little lost, but Mother was always quick to spy us and get us back. During this one summer, Aunt Hazel
